Rev. David Howell

I have been a school governor for thirty years; the first school was a state school in Leicestershire. Since moving to Herefordshire, I have been the governor of six schools and a member of the Diocesan Board of Education for many years. I enjoy working with children and have established children’s worship in my churches. Lea Church has a very good relationship with the school and they regularly come to church. We all take part in Open the Book in School. Also, I have three children who all have Learning Disabilities, which means that I am very committed to helping all children who find education difficult. I am chair of a charity called Tanga-Touch and have done a lot of work with children in Tanzania.

I am the Rector of six parishes - Aston Ingham, Hope Mansell, Lea. Linton, Upton Bishop and Weston- under- Penyard. Weston parish also has a church school that I am a governor of. My sons Daniel and Jacob, live in Gorsley and they like to worship at the Baptist Chapel there, so we are very committed to ecumenical working.

Since the National Society was started in 1811, Church of England Schools have passed through various phases from being the originators of free education, to being co- partners with the state in delivering education. Church schools offer a real sense of community and belonging which is very important to young children.  Our vision embraces the spiritual, physical, intellectual, and moral development that children need. We want children to have a rich experience of education that includes an understanding of Christianity.
